There are countless actions that can be performed as part of an active search engine marketing campaign. Ideally, there should always be someone working on the success of your website, online presence and social media profiles. The frequency and dedicate time your company needs usually depends on your industry, number of competitors and the market or geographic location you are looking to compete in. It is the job of your SEO expert to help establish timeframes, success indicators, and expectations. All of these factors should be created on a case by case basis.

Is SEO right for me?

In our opinion, if you are going to invest in having a website, you should be investing in success with search engines. When it comes to your site it is not as simple as “if you build it, they will come.” SEO is something that most successful companies have devoted a significant amount of time and money as part of their marketing campaign. In general, it may take a few months of investing in your campaign before you begin to see a return on your investment. However, when you work with the right company the scales will begin to tip and your monthly campaign will be a strong source or online visitors that convert to customers and revenue.

What about PPC or Google Adwords?

Perhaps you are interested in a “pay-per-click” known as a PPC campaign through Google Adwords. For those who don’t know these are the online advertisements that companies can create using Google Adwords. Below is an image that displays these advertisements. These ads are typically displayed at the top of search results, above the maps, in the maps, above the organic results and at the bottom of each search results page.

You may be asking yourself, “if I am going to have a PPC campaign, why do I need any SEO services?”

The answer is that website optimization still helps your the success of your Adwords Campaign. Here are a few ways that SEO helps your PPC campaign.

You are going to pay less to have your advertisements show for keywords or search terms you naturally rank well for.
Not everyone clicks on the ads so an SEO campaign should work hand in hand with any pay-per-click marketing to maximize traffic and conversions.
Google limits the number of websites it shows in the ad sections. Even though companies pay for that position, there is still competition since there are only 3-4 advertisements shown. Apart from the amount of money spent a site’s good standing with Google is another factor that will help push your ad above competitors.

How much does it cost to hire a company?

The pricing of SEO is going to be all over the board. As is the case with hiring a contractor who performs services, there is no set price or established cost We have seen monthly figures on the extremely low end of $99 to monthly campaigns of more than $10,000+. That being said there are a few things you can keep in mind before you decide what company you would like to hire. The first piece of advice is that you get what you pay for. If a price and timeframe sound too good to be true then it probably is. You can also ask for hard figures that help you get a sense of what you would be paying per hour. In our opinion somewhere between 50-100 dollars per hour is the ideal goal. Anything below that can become sketchy and price points above this tend to be overpriced. We recommend getting a few quotes from the most promising companies and then ask them how they reached the price point they quoted you.

How do I pick the right expert?

We always tell people to ask for deliverables to help establish clear services for dollars paid. We also encourage people to only work with companies that provide regular reports to detail tasks performed, an upcoming plan for the next month, an hour count and any new success you can see with search engines. This should include important numbers like the number of monthly visitors your website had and an increase in your search engine ranking for desirable keywords and phrases.

You should also balance your budget with expectations and needs. If you are a start-up perhaps you have a modest budget so you should work with a company that fits within that budget, yet can bring results to help you grow.

Lastly, base your decision off of the companies reviews and portfolio. There are some SEO companies that have dedicated themselves to one industry, for example, “dentists.” Although they may automatically seem like the best choice, you should read online reviews and show success for competitive keywords in your home state or similar city population.
